Peter Herdic Inn Reviews

Perhaps the best B&B I have ever seen ...

... and I've seen a few. I stayed here on a Tuesday night in April 2009 for work (I'm a lawyer and had a hearing the next morning). Some of the high points include:
* I got an incredibly warm welcome when I arrived. The owner who checked me in noticed that I was alone and invited me to her daughter's 30th birthday party at the restaurant that evening. I couldn't go (had to prepare for the hearing) but it was a thoughtful gesture.
* Because I arrived late, the owner gave me my choice of open rooms, but only charged me for the room I had reserved. Free upgrades are always nice.
* The room I got was magnificent: clean, beautiful, grand, but not at all fussy in the way B&Bs sometimes are. Gracious little touches - like the open decanter of sherry on the first floor - abounded throughout the property.
* The sights and sounds of downtown Williamsport were all within a five-minute walk. I walked to a late dinner at the excellent Bullfrog brewery and also walked to an early morning Mass at beautiful Annunciation Parish the next day.
* They don't normally serve breakfast on weekday mornings, but I guess they made an exception. Co-owner Bob Elion, also a lawyer, made me a great breakfast and even drove me to the courthouse on his way to work. He could not have been more gracious.

All in all, this B&B was the nicest I have seen, and the owners were the nicest I have met. They weren't overbearing and their place wasn't fussy: they were friendly and their place was, too. I can't recommend this place highly enough - I just wish I had more reasons to visit Williamsport!

“Gracious Hospitality and Great Location”

The whole family is involved in this B & B and it shows in the service you receive! You will see Marcia and Gloria in the Inn and the Restaurant next door. Their Mom, Daisy, bakes scrumptious desserts and is a delight to talk to. Bob and Jim will prepare the most delicious breakfasts for you! The French toast and popovers are unlike anything you have ever had. They not only prepare the food, serve the food, but also engage in wonderful conversation.

The location of the Inn is great for touring the Millionaire's Row Historical Homes, the Thomas Taber Museum, Peter Herdic Transportation Museum, and the Peter J. McGovern Little League Museum. The Rowley House Museum is a spectactular house to tour inside and is only a couple blocks away. Don't miss this one! The Bullfrog Brewery two blocks away has great food and is a fun place. However, book dinner at the Peter Herdic Restaurant. The food and the interior of the restaurant is fabulous!

My husband and I had the Balcony Room with the back porch. We came to the inn with another couple who had the Gold Room and the four of us were able to use the back porch along with the big front porch that everyone shared. The only drawback to the Balcony Room is that you go outside of the room into a short hall to get to your bathroom. It was not a problem for us and all of it is very private and not accessible from any other room. The Balcony Room is worth considering when traveling with another couple.

We were all treated like part of their family! I am only sorry that I was unable to meet Liz, the daughter. She was so helpful with information when I was making the reservation. I understand she also works as a chef at the Restaurant. Our meals were outstanding and I am looking forward to meeting Liz the next time we are in Williamsport.

“Historical Retreat in Williamsport”

We stayed at the Inn while in the area attending a college graduation. The Inn is a beautifully firnished Victorian located in the historic district of Williamsport, PA.
Our room (Rose Room) was charmingly firnished with antiques and had nice touches such as new fluffy white towels and spa type bath robes. The bathroom was very generous in size with a retro-40's style vanity. In the morning they serve breakfast on a table in the kitchen. A rustic table with a country French flair. Delicious food was prepared right in front of you by the wonderful innkeepers who also provide very nice conversation during the meal. All delicious! We had fruit cup with fresh spring berries, coffee, french toast, vegetable fritatta and the tallest pop-overs I've ever seen! It would have been nice however, to have coffee available earlier in the morning. We had to wait till 9:00 for our first cup, and that seemed late.
We ate dinner in the restaurant next door, which is owned by the same. The food was fabulous and the decor was again stunning as the restaurant is in another historical Victorian house. I recommend eating here if your stay at the Inn.
My ONLY complaint from our two day stay would be that my bed pillow was REALLY lumpy. Made it hard to sleep as well as I would like. With everything else so nice..... this detail was very surprising. It was also a little noisy as our room faced the street.
We would certainly stay here again when in this area of PA. But next time I might request better pillows and a room towards the back of the house.

“Wonderful Experience; Relaxing and comfortable”

Traveling to New York, I decided to break the drive up into a comfortable chunk. I choose Williamsport, Peter Herdic Inn after reading reviews on both the restaurant and Inn. What a genius I am for it was a wonderful experience. We stayed one night in the Gold room. The room was upstairs and a nice size - nice furniture, a TV, double bed, bathroom. The bathroom had a single sink and a claw foot tub. This was the only downside as I felt uncomfortable steeping out of the high tub onto a towel not anchored to the floor. But, I managed. It is an old house after all and part of the charm. We got there early enough to take a walk and have a little wine on the front porch (we had brought our own). Very comfortable - only marred by several police vehicle racing down the street to "Lord know what". If you have kids, watch them carefully on this street. I recommend getting there early enough to relax on the porch in either the swing, the rocking charids or patio furniture.
A special shout out to Liz Miehl for her hospitality. She was a joy to talk to.
That evening we dined at the restaurant - and it was one of the best food experiences I have ever enjoyed. Working with fresh ingredients and herbs, It was perfect.
After a great night's sleep, we enjoyed the kitchen downstairs for several hours. Chris worked (wireless access available) and I fixed toast and enjoyed fresh strawberry jam and of course - coffee. We talked with other guests and just had a wonderful time exchanging experiences. Then it was off to eat again - brunch at the reataurant (included in the room rate for Saturday evening). Again, the food was spectacular and plentiful.
I will go back to visit this place again. It was well worth it.
