The
Peter Herdic House History
Williamsport, PA
The Peter Herdic House was the residence of Peter Herdic,
one of Williamsport's foremost lumber barons in the late 1800's.
Peter Herdic was Williamsport's most influential citizen. When he
arrived, Williamsport had a population of about 2000. By his death
in 1888, he had transformed Williamsport into a thriving lumber capital,
some 20,000 citizens strong.
The house is among the finest examples
of Italian Villa architecture in the
state. Its distinctive features include ornate plaster moldings
and arches, acanthus columns, and a mahogany stairway that curves three
floors to a cupola.
Take a tour and discover the checkered
past of this gem that was almost destroyed.
"I thank you for another evening to
remember always. The hospitality, the dinner, and the beautiful atmosphere
made our reunion very special!" Betty & Jean, Williamsport PA. |
